As many of you now know, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is nothing less than amazing in the eyes of all of us at Lucky Dog Organics. The people that come together, paid and unpaid, each minute of each day in order to truly live out Gandhi's words.... all of them work so hard to truly BE the change we need in this world.
As I type this there are volunteers spread out all over, rescuing all types of beasts (more on that in a minute) from the dangers of disease, abuse, natural disaster or death that can find animals who are alone on the streets and lost or homeless.
Heavily on our minds here at Lucky Dog Organics are the animals still suffering post Ike. While changes were made to evacuation plans this year to include pets, sadly, some were still left behind for a multitude of reasons.
Best Friends has been on the ground in Texas trying to rescue every lost, abandoned, and stray animal they can find...including one stubborn warthog! They are doing their best and regretfully they have found many deceased animals due to the unfortunate fates of being crated, chained, or in left in one level single family homes with no place to escape the flooding. The brave rescuers continue on though as they maintain hope even in the darkest moments. This photo from AP photographer David J
Phillip shows the devastation that Ike created in Crystal Beach Texas.

Many of us are sitting here wishing we could help in some way.... well thankfully there are ways that all of us can! The shelter is in need of supplies such as pet food, flea treatment, de-wormer, disposable kitty litter pans and collapsible wire cages. The shelter’s address is Galveston County Animal Shelter, 3412 Loop 197 North, Texas City, TX 77590.
You can also donate directly to Best Friends to assist with all of their rescue efforts.
